Some sinks just spark your imagination—you see a giant single-bowl sink and think, “I could fit everything in there, including the baby’s bathtub.” Or, “That small second bowl with the garbage disposal would be perfect for prepping fresh basil straight from the backyard.”
We’ve touched on this before. Forget about what’s trendy and what the neighbors have and reflect on your own cooking and clean-up style.
Single-bowl sinks = flexibility
- Accommodate even the largest pots, baking sheets and roasting pans
- Help in cleaning large quantities of food, such as fruits and vegetables for canning or freezing
- Hide stacks of dirty dishes (relatively) out of sight
Double-bowl sinks = sharing
- Allow two people to work at the same time (although you may also want to think about adding a second sink)
- Designed for simultaneous prep and clean-up, or side-by-side soaking and washing
Triple-bowl sinks = multitasking
- Perfect for intensely active kitchens, especially when entertaining
- Hold water for washing and rinsing, while still leaving room to prep food or use the garbage disposal
We spend a lot of time at the kitchen sink—probably right behind the television, computer and phone. Get the one that’s going to work hardest for you.
